One of the most difficult aspects of social media marketing is how overwhelming it can appear. There are countless ways to position your brand online, which makes it difficult to figure out how to tackle websites like Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, or Tumblr. You and your brand can begin conquering social media by having a fundamental understanding of four social media tactics: engagement, creating quality content, being pure and original, and constantly experimenting.

1. Create High Quality Content

There are a lot of brands (and people!) out there that post a lot of content on social, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. It becomes a bad thing when the quality of the content isn’t good. Every time you hit “post” on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc., you should be thinking about the quality of your post. Creating high quality content isn’t simply about the quality of whatever you’re sharing, either. You should also be thinking about your wording. The language that you use on Facebook, Twitter, or Tumblr should all be slightly different because each site has a slightly different core user base. By thinking about the way you’re writing, and not just what you’re writing, you’ll make your followers feel part of your brand.

2. Be Pure and Original

Creating content that is pure and original is a key ingredient for your brand to make it on social media. When you create content that is original AND pure, your fans will keep on loving you. Pure content is simply content that’s easy to engage with … it will illicit a response, retweet, or share (which is something that you should be responding to). Pure content shows that you’re an expert in your field and that you know what you’re talking about. It initiates customer interactions that allow you to provide real-time answers. Pure content sparks engagement, which builds your relationship  with the person you’re talking to.

3. Engage with People

Social media should be more than a direct sales tool. It should also be a way to create loyal customers who keep coming back. You can turn a follower into a repeat customer by engaging with fans. When somebody says something to your brand, you should be responding. The engagement between a brand and a customer is important because it turns the customer into more than a customer. If a person feels like a family member of your brand, that person is more likely to be a brand advocate and push their friends to join your brand’s family.

4. Experiment

One of the most fun parts of social is that you can experiment with ideas and see the results of your experimentation immediately. If you initially struggle to engage with your audience on social, it’s not the end of the world because you can quickly adapt. Social is a place for you to experiment with the tone of your brand and your overall brand messaging.

Why Social Media?

Social Media is a powerful resource to help you drive traffic to your business or personal projects. However, social media is pointless without a destination. If you haven’t set up your own website, there’s no time like the present to do so. Start building your website:
