We weren’t kidding when we told you we’d be updating our Android app to include even cooler features. Our lead developer on the app, Owen, officially launched ’91local search’ this week. The local search feature uses the phone’s GPS to detect the latitude and longitude and then searches domain names for local businesses around that location.
The feature is a great way for businesses to locate strong keyword domains to register that will help them drive more business to their existing site. Geo domain investors rejoice! Now you can enjoy endless inspiration for hot geo domain suggestions from wherever you may be. Personally I’m surprised at how many local shops don’t have their domains registered! It’s a great opportunity to share with your favorite coffee shop barista or hairdresser why they should get their business online. It’s also fun just to search and poke around.
From within the app simply click on the ’91Location’ button from the menu. The tool will automatically detect your latitude and longitude (make sure your GPS is turned on) and then pull available domains based on places around your location.
Don’t Have an Android?
Don’t feel left out; for those of you who don’t have Android phones (we’re still planning on an iPhone app summer 2011!) you can test out this (beta) search functionality here: www.name.com/localsearch
We hope you enjoy playing around with the new tool! Let us know what you think.
Geeze, we’re up to our ears in buzz over the GoDaddy SuperBowl commercial. So they’re going to ’91unveil’ a new .CO girl, it might even be a blonde this time, ooooh, big deal! We will admit though, the hype did get us talking, but we quickly came to the conclusion that long gone are the days where a $3million dollar investment on a Super Bowl ad is worth it. We’ve got tens of thousands of potential views via the World Wide Web, so why not try that route? So in under 48 hours we pulled off our own Super Bowl commercial, at a fraction of the price. What does this mean for you? Well, we’re not going to try to sell you on sex appeal, instead we thought we’d simply lower our price. So check it out; register your .CO domain for just $7.77. Has a nice ring to it right? Jackpot! We’re going to throw .COM into the mix too- .CO and .COM just $7.77, this offer is only valid 2/6-2/12 on first time registrations.
Oh yeah and be sure to check out our video. I’m sure you’ll quickly see we’re not professionals. We did the best we could in the time we had and we hope you enjoy. While you’re at it, share it with a friend. 🙂
We are so excited! Our recent move took us across town from the Lowry district of Denver, Colorado westward over to the heart of Cherry Creek. Months of planning surely paid off as the new space is shaping up to be nothing short of fantastic! We now look as vibrant as we feel. With the move comes increased visibility for Name.com, which we are ready for. We’re hoping to get more name recognition since after all; we are Colorado’s largest domain registrar.
The new space has a modern look and feel. It was important to Bill, who is an artist at heart, to be in a space that fosters creativity and aids in the process of ’91making things’ whether that be ideas or products. With our new central location already members of the Name team have decided to leave their cars parked at home and hop on a bike or hit the pavement by foot to get here. Personally, i’m going to wait until the snow melts 🙂
Check out the pictures below and tell us what you think! Feel free to take the virtual tour as well. WARNING: Video will more than likely make you dizzy (It was my first video and my footage is really shaky. My apologies, I’ll get a better one up soon!) New Office Digs!
With Thanksgiving coming up in a matter of hours, we of course started to think about some of the things we are thankful for here at Name.com. Sure we have a great team of people and a fun office environment, but what we’re most thankful for is you, our customers. You are the reason that we work so hard and have fun doing what we do. And for that, we thank you.
We wish all of our US customers a happy Thanksgiving and all of our international customers a very happy holiday season. Cheers!
Yes! It is finally here, costume contest time! The Name.com team showed up to work all decked out in their costumes and we need your help picking the best one. Check out everyone below (you can hover over each image for name and costume details) and then post your votes in the comments, or feel free to shout at us on Twitter or Facebook..we’ll catch ’em!
Also if you’ve dressed up today we would LOVE to see pics of your costumes. Link away!
A lot of costume sites can be a strain on the eyes, but SpiritHalloween.com has created a clean website with a ton of costumes to choose from. We realize it’s probably a little late to order something, but you can always bookmark for next year. 🙂
Okay, so Threadless isn’t a Halloween site per se, but they are running a killer deal on their scary-themed tees. Score!
HalloweenForum.com is, you guessed it, a great place to chat it up with other Halloween fans. If you’re looking for craft, costume, or party ideas..look no further.
HauntedHouses.com is a spooky guide to haunted houses (both real and attractions) across the United States.
A photographic exploration of abandoned buildings and places, Opacity.us is related to Halloween more in atmosphere than anything else. Great use of an alternative extension too. 😉
Everyone, meet Robert. Robert joined us earlier in the summer as one of our systems administrators and he’s probably best known as the guy who stays up all night cranking when there are things like outages. A transplant from Fort Worth, TX to Colorado, Robert came to Name.com with many years in the hosting industry under his belt.
Prior to working in hosting, he was a yakuza assassin that specialized in knives. Even though he was quite good at his job, he felt the lack of benefits and worker’s comp were too much of a liability. He decided to leave the yakuza lifestyle for a more rewarding career in systems administration. However, that doesn’t mean he’s any less sharp at his job! Ba dum bum.
Bad puns aside, Robert has been a fantastic addition to the Name.com team. We’re very excited to have him on board and we hope you will join us in welcoming him.
The Name.com league has a few games under its belt and we’re starting to see some teams take off..and a couple fall behind. The Dr. Hook McCracken team seems to think their stats are an anomaly and that’s why they’re in last place — whatever makes you feel better. 😉
The only remaining undefeated team is Cowboy Barker’s Beauties, which belongs to our support lead Sky. Proving that his apparent cheating is not just limited to ping pong. (We kid, Sky, we kid 🙂
How is your team doing? Let us know in the comments!
