Slow down there speed racer! Although your newly purchased domain is all yours, there are still a couple steps you need to take to get your website up and running. Luckily, there are plenty of options available for quickly and easily linking an existing website or setting up a new one.
When you head on over to Name.com Apps, you’ll see just how many options you have for setting up a site. Whether your preferred platform is Blogger, Facebook, SquareSpace, or something else, setup is typically just a click away.
New Domains like .REVIEWS and .MENU are changing the Internet in a pretty cool way. They make it easier for you to find the information you need without having to search through pages of search engine results. Here’s one example using the New Domain .REVIEWS to direct people to positive reviews about your business.
Here’s how to make it easy for current and potential customers to find you:
2. Once you have your business name, you can set up free URL forwarding to your Yelp page.
You can do this by going to your account dashboard in your name.com account and then selecting your new .REVIEWS domain name. Once you’re managing your domain, you need to press the “URL Forwarding” tab on the sidebar menu. Once you’ve pressed that button, your screen should look like the following:
3. You’re almost done!
You just need to fill in the text fields (shown above) on the forwarding page. Here’s how you fill this page in properly:
Domain: Simply enter an asterisk (*).
Title:This only applies to the Masked style of forwarding (we’ll cover this below). It will allow you to set the page title displayed at the top of a browser.
URL: Copy your Yelp page URL into this textbox. Your Yelp URL will look like: http://www.yelp.com/biz/business-name-denver.
Type: You need to decide which type of URL forward you would like. The options masked, 301 and 302 redirect mean the following:
Masked URL Forwarding – this lets you forward to any site without the need to configure that site. Your domain is displayed in the URL bar of the browser.
301 and 302 redirection – these are HTTP status codes that tell your browser to take you to a different site.
4. Press “Add Forwarding” and viola!
Now people can find your Yelp page by typing in businessname.reviews instead of a long URL like http://www.yelp.com/biz/business-name-denver.

A lot of people start a new business with the notion that they need to set up a Facebook page, Twitter profile, etc. They think that they need social media to be successful. While a lot of businesses can benefit from having a social media presence, it’s not always necessary. An ecommerce company can obviously benefit tremendously from having a strong brand and social media following, but professionals like plumbers and lawyers really don’t need to spend any time building a social following since they rely largely on word of mouth referrals.
Creating an email address with your domain name is one of the easiest ways to promote your company or business. Simply put, having your domain name in your email address makes you look more trustworthy and professional.
A domain name can be more than just the home of your awesome website, but a way to brand yourself online. One new and creative way to use a domain that is quickly gaining in popularity is using a domain like .NINJA or .SOCIAL as a short and memorable name that forwards directly to your LinkedIn profile.
As of Jan. 1, the contact information for domain name registrations has to be verified (it’s a new ICANN requirement). The verification process is extremely simple: when you register a domain, you can choose to receive a verification code either over the phone or via email. You’ll then use that code at Name.com to complete the verification.
It’s a one-time verification, so you won’t have to do it again unless you change your contact info. Here’s a video tutorial that details the verification process:
