The long road to internet success, part 1: Winning over my wife

Just going to drop a TL;DR on you right away. I’m using Name.com domains and products to pursue my goal of convincing my wife to be almost 24% more confident that I’ll host the Academy Awards in 2018. Or ever, really. Right now, on a scale of 1 – 10, she’s at a solid 1. It’s […]

It’s really hard not to agree with her.

Three reasons I’m doing this:

  1. To demonstrate what’s possible with Name.com products and domains.
  2. To show the world that workplaces can be cool places where dreams are for both employer and employee.
  3. Because I need to get off my @$ and do the comedy that otherwise festers in my belly.
  4. And my wife is kinda tired of me only talking about it.

Let us begin:

What? Academy Awards? Are you high?

No. I’m terrible with weed. ←Btw, that link is a bit PG-13. Actually, I’d say I’m low. I’m looking up at all these things I need to do and I just need to get started. The Academy Awards is a massive, sometimes annoying ordeal, but they need a big name to get people to watch. What if … what if someone created an online story that grew to the point that they were known well enough to make it worth the Academy’s time to consider them as the host?

The sort of thing I should be saying yes to.
The sort of thing I should be saying yes to.

The idea of building a reputation has me at my first goal: 500 Likes. It’s my small, initial goal for building my nascent Facebook fan page. That’s not big time. That’s not a star on the Walk of Fame. It’s more like graffiti in a bathroom stall. But it’s a start.

I’m going to begin by doing what I do so very well but all too often: giving. Giving like a drunken lottery winner at a strip club. This works for me because I’m a notorious people pleaser. I kid you not, a concerned friend gave me the book The Disease to Please, and I only read it to make her happy. For reals, I can’t say no, so I’m going to focus on the things to which I should be saying yes to. I’m going to provide entertainment for fundraisers. Helpful, community-driven goals get me giddy and I’m always honored to be a part of them.

Why does this matter to me?

And by me I mean you. If you’re going to join me on this journey, it’s got to matter to you, and it will. Over the next few months I’m going to use the conveniences of the Internet, including Name.com domain names and web services, to help me get to my goal of becoming a recognizable public figure. During that time I’ll log what’s working and not working.

I’ll drag in the experts (who are also Name.com customers) who’ll help guide me. With your help and theirs, I’ll unearth new gems of self-discovery and aspirational awesomeness. I’ll provide live streams and video of on-stage performances (where bandwidth is available) as well as whatever down-home, country boy goodness a small town kid can conjure to entertain and inform.

In short, I’d like you to be there and I’ll go to great lengths to make it worth your time.
