As a registrar and part of the tech community, we take pride in being innovators. We like to think that we are creative thinkers who embrace the new and come up with ideas for making our service better, faster, and more reliable. We’re very excited to announce a giant step in innovation for the entire domain name industry. We’re proud to unveil a change that could alter the domain industry as we know it.

See domain drones in action in this educational video.

As of today, we’ve began a first-of-its kind program for delivering domains to domain registrants (the person who buys a domain name) via unmanned drone.

It’s an idea that some of our top employees came up with several years ago, but didn’t seem like it could become a reality—that is, until we were inspired by the movie Top Gun. Seeing the lengths that Tom Cruise went to keep our world safer really put into perspective just how comparatively little we’d have to do to make our dream of drone delivery a reality. After investing countless hours and spending millions on research over the past two and a half years, we’re proud to say our investment has payed off as this program comes to fruition.

For a long time, one click of a button instantly put a domain name into your account. But now it will take the several days necessary for a drone to get to your home or business address. This kind of pioneering is not uncommon in the business world and we’re thrilled to be able to put it on our symbolic mantle of achievement.

Thank you, Name.com customers, as your belief in the little registrar that could has turned us into a global force. Our new drone program offers a whole new experience for domain buying, making it a personal—and sometimes startling—experience.

*If you haven’t already figured it out yet, this is an April Fools joke. Sadly, no drones will be delivering domains to you in the near future.
