.PRO Domain Names
Why should I register a .PRO domain name?
The .PRO domain is the first generic top level domain (gTLD) created exclusively for business professionals. Trust is hard to come by in today's world. By registering a .PRO domain, you are telling your clients that their trust is your primary asset. Having a .PRO extension gives additional credibility and confidence to your business as only registrants that are in good standing with their licensing entity are permitted to register.
Until recently, the .PRO domain has only been closed to all but four professions in four countries. Now that registration requirements have changed, the domain has been opened up to many other occupations in hundreds of countries! Some examples of professions now eligible for a .PRO are:
Real Estate Brokers
Patent and Trademark Examiners
Police and Fire Safety Officers
any other profession where an official credential is required for a business or individual to offer services
Are there any restrictions for registering a .PRO?
Yes. Because the .PRO domain is intended for use by business professionals, there are several criteria that must be met. To be eligible to register a second level .PRO, you must meet the following criteria:
- You are a person or entity who provides professional services; and
- You have been admitted to or licensed by a government certification body, or jurisdictional licensing entity recognized by a governmental body; and
- That body or licensing entity requires that its members be licensed or admitted to provide services; and
- You are in good standing
Currently, only members of four professions are eligible to register third-level .PRO domains. These are engineers (ENG.PRO), attorneys (LAW.PRO, BAR.PRO, JUR.PRO), accountants (CPA.PRO, ACA.PRO), and physicians (MED.PRO) to register any of these third-level .PRO domain names, you must provide verification that you are licensed or otherwise credentialed by the appropriate government agencies or organizations to provide professional services to the public.
