W3 Schools

As one of the most well-known developer resources out there, W3 Schools is a great starting point for prospective coders. The site’s tutorial section offers free lessons on HTML, CSS, JavaScript, XML, and much more. Hour of Code

If you’d like to learn coding skills but don’t have a lot of time to dedicate to lessons, this resource from nonprofit Code.org is a great solution. Lessons are broken down into small, one-hour increments so you can can learn at your own pace, and are available in 45 languages. Visit Hour of Code.

Codecadamy

Once you’ve signed up for a free account on Codecademy, you’ll have access to their many tracks of coding lessons. Learn the basics of HTML and CSS or dive deeper into other programming languages like Python, Ruby, and more. Visit Codecademy.

Khan Academy is well known for its wealth of free lessons on a variety of topics, but you may not have known that they offer coding lessons as well. MIT OpenCourseWare

MIT’s initiative to make all of their undergraduate- and graduate- level courseware available and open to the public is applaudable in itself, but it also has some great resources for aspiring coders.
