Adjusting SPAM filter for Hosting Email

If you are receiving too much spam in your Inbox, or too many false positives in your Spam folder, adjusting the spam blocking level may help. The spam blocking level determines how likely it is that a message will be marked as spam. A higher blocking level means messages are more likely to be marked as spam; however, you may also find that a lot of innocent messages are also classified as spam (false positives).

  1. Log into your hosting cPanel.
  2. Click Spam Filters, in the Email-section.
  3. Click the link Spam Threshold Score, located in the section for The option to Process New Emails and Mark them as Spam is enabled by default (which is enabled and enforced by default.)
  4. Choose the spam blocking level from the drop-down menu, and then click Update Scoring Options.
    Spam messages score higher calculated spam scores than regular messages. If a message’s calculated spam score meets or exceeds the Spam Threshold Score, the system will label that message as spam. For example, an account that uses a Spam Threshold Score of 10 will only mark messages that are obviously spam. A Spam Threshold Score of 2 will label many messages as spam, which includes messages that are likely not spam. We recommend that new users use the default setting of 5. We recommend that an ISP set this score to 8. The Spam Threshold Score does not affect the Auto-Delete Threshold Score.
