If you’ve come up with a great idea for an online store, or are ready to go pro with your shop on eBay or Etsy, you’re probably spending a lot of time thinking about your eCommerce store and what you want it to be like. You might have already come up with a store name, a color scheme, a couple of snazzy slogans—and that’s great! But you may have overlooked a decision that could make or break your site: choosing a great hosting plan.
5 things to look for in a quality web host
Hosting is a necessity for anyone who wants to create a website and build their online presence. But many shoppers find themselves at a loss when it comes to choosing a reliable web host and determining which hosting plans are suitable for your needs. Luckily, there are a few basic questions you can ask that can help you choose a web host that is right for you.
Do you have a really good idea, are thinking about creating an online portfolio, or want to make a web presence for your business but don’t know how to make a website? It’s something that can seem overwhelming, but there are so many great tools making it easy to get online, that you can do it even if you don’t know how to code or have graphic design skills.
Since even the thought of making a website is something that can be daunting, we decided to make a quick, “how to make a website,” guide that lays out all of the ways you (yes, you) can quickly and affordably make a great looking website.
The impasse over the federal budget has brought up the quite awful word “sequestration,” which sounds bodily and weird but is actually worse. It means that nondefense government programs will be cut by nine percent, and defense programs will be cut by 13 percent. Now that can’t be good for anyone, so we thought we’d help however we can.
Here’s more from Owen Borseth, our Vice President of Awesome.
It’s good to see that a lot of hard working people are getting the attention they deserve. Although I’m not sure if this is how they imagined it.
Gotta say a quick but emphatic THANK YOU to Gregg Moss over at 9News for being awesome and savvy and whatever else it takes to convince your news director that something like this does belong on the news. Oh, and an even bigger apology to the wife of an unnamed employee who could not believe he’d bare his pasty parts on YouTube. It has been of no consolation now that her whole family can see it.
Here you go, the Name.com Cyber Monday Domain Deals ad’s television debut…
The Cyber Monday deal, BTW, has been extended through Friday. Use promo code CYBERFUNDAY for 20% off new domain names and web hosting.
It’s been a big week for Name.com. Entrepreneur Magazine published this golden nugget of juicy goodness about our customer support.
Sometimes when you turn on the TV and see all the hot people parading around and pimping products, it’s hard to fathom how much they spend on commercials. Millions! Billions! That’s money that could go into customer support or maybe some huge discounts for, you know, the people who pay hard-earned money to keep you in business! Anything but a random pretty person who shows up for 30 seconds before sprinting off to Prague! (Nothing against Prague, but that seems to be where a lot of hot models go.) But then you look around the office and realize that you’ve got talent right next to you. You don’t need no stinking fashion models! Although there was that one time we stole one…
At name.com, all of our marketing material comes with real people who really work for name.com. On our home page you’ll see Caroline who works on our affiliate program; Jeremiah in support, who was all-too happy to get to play with a sword; Patrick from dev as our premium domain pimp; and Shannon, our product manager, as the incognito femme for Whois privacy.
Oh, and don’t forget our unicorn, Bob. Most companies would go out and blow Bolivia’s GDP on a highly paid Hollywood unicorn, but not us, we just want you to have the best experience possible with your domains, websites and hosting.
A new month and a new promo code. Spring has Sprung and we’re churning out deals like a mountain…well…spring. The lowdown is this:
For the more literary, use the Promo Code “SPRUNG” for $9.99 COM/NET first-year Registration and Renewal, $8.99 .ORG Renewal and 25% off any Hosting Plan Renewal.
We’ve had a lot of requests for the .ORG renewal deal, and last month’s website hosting code for new sign ups fired up our base with queries such as, “Why aren’t you offering a @#!%^%&#$@#$%$!@&&#@$% promo code for hosting renewal?” Thank you. Here it is…now go and renew yourself like the sweet, sweet Spring that is on its way…(and if you’re buying a new domain, then I’m sure there’s some metaphor about being born and such but it just seems forced.) And thank you again.
Thought this was a great follow up to the “importance of Focus” blog post. Here a university professor shows the actual negative effect on the brain that multi-tasking has when compared to a singular focus. So remember, whether it’s buying a new domain name, setting up your web-hosting, building your website, or getting traffic via search engine optimization… focus!

We are about to do three things that should make you happy:
1- Make the site much, much easier to use. We’re systematically going through the site page by page, click by click, and making it simpler. You deserve that.
2- Give our current customers lots of new friends, so they can look back and say that all the new guys are just “jumping on the bandwagon” and that “we were customers of Name.com before everyone knew about them.” Hey, it’s cool to be first. We’re going to help make sure the whole world knows how cool you are.
3- Help you. We work hard to make sure we have what you need, but this year we’re taking it to the next level. From video tutorials and guides on every page to educational blog content to 24 hour support (this will be the last half of the year… takes a while to staff!), this is going to be a banner year… for both of us.
