Software Engineer

This position is responsible for rapid hands on development of a variety of small and large-scale web applications and services for an ICANN accredited domain name registrar. Working on a small web development team, the position calls for close collaboration with all facets of the company to meet daily and long term demands of a fast paced and growing Internet company.

Responsibilities & Duties

  • Design and develop web applications to meet user requirements.
  • Design and implement the components required for complex application features and multiple projects. These activities include defining, architecting, coding, testing, debugging, and deployment to support application systems.
  • Prepare estimates and develops project plans.
  • Suggest technical alternatives and make recommendations to internal customers for the most effective and efficient automated approach.
  • Diagnose and resolve technical issues/bugs
  • Monitor development in Web-related technologies, oversee and participate in the evaluation, selection, acquisition, installation, maintenance, and operation of Web-related technologies and emerging, state-of-the-art tools and technologies.
  • Research and implement technological improvements to streamline processes.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3-5+ years Web development experience.
  • Solid knowledge of PHP5 Object Oriented programming.
  • Strong working knowledge of SQL, specifically MySQL.
  • Strong knowledge of server technologies such as Apache.
  • Experience working with XML and designing XML Schema.
  • Working knowledge of HTML, JavaScript, CSS, AJAX, DHTML.
  • Coding standards, organizational programming skills and good commenting practices is important.
  • Experience working in a Linux/Unix environment.

User Interface (UI) Designer

At Name.com we want to put a greater emphasis on the usability of our tools and services. By focusing on the user, we believe the rest will fall into place. We're looking for a UI Designer to help drive the design process for new Name.com products and features. As a UI Designer, you will work closely with our development team and company leadership throughout all stages of the product cycle. If you're a critical thinker with a good design sense, a strong technical background, and an eye for making things better we want to talk to you. This is a full-time salaried position.

The Responsibilities:

  • Helping to define and create the user interface for new and existing Name.com products and features.
  • Developing high level and/or detailed storyboards, mockups and prototypes to effectively communicate interaction and design ideas.
  • Evaluating the usability of new and existing products, and making informed and constructive suggestions for change.

The Requirements:

  • Solid academic background in human-computer interaction or related field (BS or MS in Computer Science or related field a big plus.
  • Demonstrated experience in designing usable web-based interfaces.
  • Understanding of the MVC architecture and experience developing user interfaces in Symfony, Ruby on Rails or similar platform.
  • Expert HTML & CSS skills.
  • Excellent knowledge of JavaScript.
  • Strong, clean visual design sense.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
