Troubleshooting SSL errors on certain browsers
Last Updated: January 02, 2026
While most browsers only require the main certificate (CRT) to function, others—specifically Firefox and most mobile browsers—require a full "Chain of Authority." If your SSL certificate is missing the intermediate link, these browsers will display errors such as "Incomplete Chain" or "This Connection is Untrusted."
If your site works on HTTPS in some browsers but fails in others, you likely need to install your Intermediate CA Certificate.
Phase 1: Retrieve your intermediate certificate
Log into your name.com account.
Click My Products in the top navigation.
Select the SSL certificate you are managing.
Next to Certificates that have been issued, click Show Certificates.
Locate the section labeled CA Certificates.
-
Copy the entire block of text under INTERMEDIATE.
Note: You must include the lines
-----BEGIN CERTIFICATE-----and-----END CERTIFICATE-----.
Phase 2: Install the certificate on your hosting
If your site is hosted elsewhere, provide this copied text to your hosting provider. If you are using name.com hosting, follow these steps:
Log into your name.com account and click My Products.
Click on your hosting package (e.g., Personal, Premium, or Business Hosting).
Click the cPanel Login button.
Under the Security section, click SSL/TLS.
Click Manage SSL sites (found under the "Install and Manage SSL for your site" heading).
Select your domain name from the Domain dropdown menu.
Click the Autofill by Domain button to populate your existing CRT and Private Key.
Scroll down to the field labeled Certificate Authority Bundle: (CABUNDLE).
Paste the Intermediate certificate you copied in Phase 1 into this field.
Click Install Certificate.
What to expect next
Once the installation is successful, the server configuration updates almost instantly. However, you may need to clear your browser cache or restart your mobile browser to see the changes. Your website should now resolve without errors across all platforms.
