Set Up Google Workspace (formerly G Suite)
Last Updated: May 06, 2025
If you have chosen Google Workspaces (formerly G Suite) to be your domain's email service provider, there are just a few steps before you can use your new email!
Purchasing Google Workspace
- First, you need to purchase Google Workspace, which can be done by selecting Get Started at the top of the site, then selecting Google Workspace.
- Choose your plan: Business Starter or Business Standard.
-
Enter the number of users you wish to buy and click Add to Cart.
- Proceed to checkout and pay using your preferred method of payment.
Setting up Google Workspace
- To locate your new Google Workspace product, click on My Products in the top right of the window.
- Scroll down to the Google Workspace/G Suite section, then click on Manage for your Google Workspace product.
-
Select the domain you would like to use with your Google Workspace. You may either select a domain from within your account using the drop-down or manually enter a domain that is registered outside of Name.com and click Next Step.
Note: You will need to be the current owner of this domain. -
Enter in your personal information and click Next Step.
Note: It's imperative that the alternative email address is valid and working. - Enter the desired email address and the password you wish to use, and click COMPLETE SETUP.
Add the correct MX records to get your email up and running. If the domain is within your Name.com account, our system will pop up a window prompting the update of your DNS records to include Google Workspace records. Press OK to complete the process. You can also add the MX records later if you wish.
Please note, if the domain is not using our name servers or registered elsewhere, you will need to place these records through your name server provider. You can see the required MX records on this Google help article: Set up MX records for Google Workspace.
Verifying Your Google Workspace
-
Log in to the Google Workspace Admin Console by going to admin.google.com.
If you encounter a 404 error, you may be logged in to a personal Google account. You can resolve this issue either by making sure you are logged into the correct account (your Google workspace admin email), or by opening an incognito mode or private browsing mode for your browser: Sign in to multiple accounts at once - You may need to click through more than one verification screen to complete the verification process.
This will bring you to the Google Workspace Admin Panel, where you will need to log in to the Admin account you have just created. Once logged in, you will be prompted to review and accept the Terms of Service.
Please note that reseller access is essential for managing your Google Workspace product. If reseller access is disabled, billing events such as renewals or additional user purchases will fail.
Once you have accepted the terms of service you will proceed to the admin panel and Verify your domain.
If the option above is not shown, you can search for “verify domain” and select Manage Domains from the available options.
This will take you to a page where you can choose “Verify domain” under the Status column.
You will now be prompted to go through the domain verification process.
Google is requiring the use of the manual insertion of your records. While it will detect name.com, you will select 'No'. It will then provide you with a drop-down to select your nameserver provider. If name.com is managing your nameservers, you will select 'Other' from the list, and be presented with adding a txt validation record.
Next, choose your domain’s name server provider and select continue.
Here, you will be provided with a DNS record to complete the domain verification process.
Copy the provided values and place them in your DNS:
Once the record has been added, return to the Google Admin console and check the box stating the code has been updated, then proceed by clicking Confirm. Please keep in mind that DNS propagation can take some time, so you may have to wait a bit before the system completes this step.
Note: Once this record is added it may take up to 24-48 hours for full verification to propagate.
Congratulations! You are now set up with your Google Workspace Email!
