If you live in a country that’s a member of the European Union, you’re likely already familiar with Value Added Tax, or VAT. We began collecting the required tax from our customers located in the EU back in September for business-to-consumer transactions.

But if you are a business-to-business company, we have good news: You may be exempt from VAT! All you have to do is submit your VAT ID from within your Name.com account.

Adding a VAT ID

If your registrant contact details list an address in the EU, you’ll need to add your VAT ID to your Name.com account profile. Log into your Name.com and choose Account Contacts from the My Account menu.

When you reach the Account Management screen, scroll down the Registrant tab to the address section. If your address is part of the EU, you’ll see a section where you can enter your VAT ID.

Enter your VAT ID  in the field and press the Update button to save your information.

Adding VAT to invoices

You may need to add your VAT ID to your invoices for tax purposes. Although we don’t have a specific area in our invoices for a VAT ID, you can still enter it in your account information so it will show up alongside your other personal details.

From your Name.com account, choose Billing Information from the My Account menu.

Billing Information

Press the arrow next to your business Payment Profile to edit the billing information.

In the second address line, write “VAT” and enter your VAT ID. Click Update Profile to save the information.

Enter VAT info

Anytime you use that payment profile, your VAT number will appear with your personal details. If you use a different payment method, the VAT ID will need to be added to that profile as well for it to show up.
