Your vote does rock

The 2016 Election is ugly. It’s the kind of thing that makes you want to slink away and shower a lot.

The 2016 Election is ugly. It’s the kind of thing that makes you want to slink away and shower a lot.

Future voting booths.
Future voting booths.

But despite the overall nasty tone and downright relentless waves of depressing revelations, we’ve discovered that this election is about much more than who’s the next president.

All 435 seats of the House of Representatives are up for a vote in their respective states and so are 34 seats from the Senate. We sifted around the ‘net and found that there are some big issues in every state. Millions of Americans are voting to increase the minimum wage. Millions more are in areas that could vote to ease up on marijuana laws and even more are in states that could see a major change in tax policy. We haven’t even gotten to tobacco and guns yet—the taxes and regulations thereof could very well pop up at a polling station near you.

How do you find out what’s on the ballot in your area while getting all the necessary information on where and how you can vote? We went to this handy site.

And we haven’t even mentioned the Supreme Court and how that hangs in the balance, or that there are more than just two political parties (S/O to the Greens, the Libertarians, the Constitution Party, Evan McMullin…). But enough lecturing. Here’s what we did. We had fun with it. Because we can. In a part-therapy, part-public service campaign, we teamed up with Ignite Denver and followed two people on their election tour. Any resemblance to any actual person, living or dead, is purely coincidental.

In short, while these campaigns we’ve been subjected to are nasty things, our right to vote is beautiful.
