Root for Denver this weekend, because it means big domain discounts on Monday

In honor of Sunday’s game (which is of course exclusively called The Big Game, and nothing else), we’re having a big domain sale. But the sale depends on the outcome.

We’re rooting for our hometown team, so if Denver wins, you can use the promo code CHAMPS get some huge discounts on a big list of domain extensions, including $0.99 .ROCKS, .SOCIAL, and .NINJA. The sale will begin at 9 a.m. MST on Monday and end at midnight.

Bottoms Rupp: .NINJA turns one year old

Ahh, how the time flies. It seems just yesterday that .NINJA was a newborn. Now it’s one year old. It’s grown so big! It’s taken its first steps! It’s eating solid food! It’s sleeping through the night … sometimes!

To celebrate, .NINJA domain names will be just $0.99 during Thursday’s Bottoms Rupp Happy Hour (May 28, 2015). The promo code will be announced at 3 p.m. MST, so bookmark the Bottoms Rupp page and check back for the code to join in on the savings.

WE LOST THE BET: eNom’s Chris Sheridan Joins us from Seattle

Every bet is a risk, of course, but sometimes you get a little excited and lose yourself in the moment. The “moment” in Denver was when our football team went 13-3 and our quarterback, Peyton Manning, broke more records than a drunken disc jockey. Heading into the big game against Seattle, we were feeling a victory was likely … and therefore put ourselves on the line for our team. If Denver had won, we would’ve been given the keys to run Seattle’s eNom office (they sell domains, too).

Instead, the inverse happened—Seattle crushed Denver—and super sales juggernaut Chris Sheridan was sent from eNom to run our office the only way he knows how: hard-boiled, in-your-face sales. Sales. Sales sales sales. We get the importance of selling things; it pays our salary. But we just go about it differently. We’re located near Boulder and much of our staff actually enjoys kale. But because Denver was eviscerated like a slow pony in a velociraptor race, Chris Sheridan got to come to name.com and impose his will.

Before you see the ugly results, please know that you’re already a winner. Use the promo code FISHTOSS for a sweet, sweet deal on .CO domain names: $7.99 for registrations (valid through midnight MST on Feb. 14, 2014).

FISHTOSS

We’ve got a new contest … so now even Seattle fans can win

We don’t want to get too cocky, so here in Denver, we’re doing our best to share our Big Game joy with the entire world. So we created a contest that gives you a great chance to save some money on domains. There are two ways to enter:

Option 1: Use a promo code

When you register a new .COM or .NET domain name between now and kickoff, let us know which team will win by entering either DENVER or Seattle as the promo code during checkout. If the team you pick wins, then we’ll send you a sweet deal for a new $5 COM/NET domain.

Option 2: Put on your dancing shoes

If you’re not into purchasing anything, then you can get your special $5 domain promo code by sending us a video of you doing a celebratory touchdown dance (that somehow expresses your affection for name.com) to biggame@name.com. We’d love to see you dance. We love that we’re in the big dance. It’s happiness all around and we’re happy to have you be a part of it. And now a video that shares much the same information, but gets downright magical at about :32.

Create your online portfolio with WordPress and .ME

me-cover-blog

me-priceIf you’re trying to land a new job or get some freelance work, it’s essential to have an online presence where you can show off your skills—especially in fields like journalism, copywriting, photography, design, etc. In other words, you need an online portfolio.

One of the best ways to create an online portfolio is to use WordPress, and if you combine a WordPress portfolio with a .ME domain name, you’re instantly branding the site as the destination to see YOUR best work.

Did I mention that you can get .ME domain names for just $4.99 through Sept. 12? And that you can get one year of WordPress hosting and a .ME domain name for $30 when you use the promo code “GetMe?”

OK, so that might have been a bit much to squeeze into one headline, but it is a pretty awesome deal. With a .ME domain name you can get something that’s short, sweet, and impossible to forget, and it gives your site a personal touch from the very start.

Transparency means "Hey, we totally pooched this!"

Ideas are neat. They are the foundation of all great things; the seeds to a bounty of treasure and success. They are also the the upside-down launchpad to failure. Long story short: Instead of simply releasing our promo code to the public as we do the first of every month, we decided to see if we could get 1500 more people to “like” us on Facebook before we let our latest coupon fly. It didn’t work. People are used to waking up to a domain deal on the front stoop of a bright new month, and so instead of people “liking” us, they “flipping despised” us. Luckily there’s no button for that.

With no physical challenges, bureuacratic stipulations or unwieldy demands, here’s the promo code:

FEELTHELOVE

And the goodness it brings:

Use it through the end of February, 2012 for $9.99 Com/Net reg/renew, $29.99 .TV renewals and 50% off any of our hosting plans (that’s monthly OR YEARLY!)

Like any good company though, we weren’t totally sure we were wrong until a high-powered consultant could confirm it.

We’ve learned our lesson. We hope you feel our love (and any in return would be nice.) And if there’s anything we hope you take away (other than a hunger to shop like a beast) it’s that at Name.com, we’re open, honest and transparent. Even if it means just a tiny bit of awkwardness and embarrassment…and having the CEO’s mom rush the CEO’s daughter over for a quick reality check.
